The 4A9x family of engines are inline 4 cylinder engines designed by Mitsubishi. They are the successor to the Orion engine. They are designed to be a lightweight, compact engine for use in the company's small vehicles. They features an all-alloy design with double overhead camshafts, MIVEC (on the intake camshaft) and four valves per cylinder.
The engine has been built at the joint Mitsubishi Daimler-Chrysler facility - MDC Power in Germany since 2003 and the Shenyang Aerospace Mitsubishi Motors Engine Manufacturing Co Ltd in China since 2009.
The 4A90 is a 1.3 litre engine displacing 1332cc. It has a 75.0 mm x 75.4 mm bore and stroke with a 10.5:1 compression ratio, Mitsubishi claims power figures of 70 kW at 6000 rpm and torque of 125 Nm at 4000 rpm. The engine has seen service in non-Australian RG Mitsubishi Colts.
The 4A91 is a 1.5 litre engine displacing 1499cc. It has a 75.0 mm x 84.8 mm bore and stroke with a 10.0:1 compression ratio, power is claimed to be 80 kW at 6000 rpm and torque 145 Nm at 4000 rpm. It has been used in the RG Mitsubishi Colt both in Australia and overseas.
The 4A92 is a 1.6 litre engine displacing 1590cc. It has a 75.0mm x 90.0mm bore and stroke with a 11.0:1 compression ratio. It produces 86 kW at 6000 rpm and torque of 154 Nm at 4000 rpm.
