The Saturn family of engines are 4 cylinder in line engines from 1.3 to 1.8 Litres in capacity. They are designated with 4G3x numbering.
The Saturn family of engines are quite basic. They all have 2 valves per cylinder with a single overhead camshaft driven by either a belt or chain. The cylinder heads are aluminum and of a crossflow design. Engine blocks are cast iron.
4G30
The 4G30 is a 1.3 Litre engine, displacing 1289cc. It has a 73.0x77.0mm bore and stroke. The camshaft on the 4G30 was driven by a chain. In Australia the engine was used in the GA Galant from 1969 to 1973.
4G31
The 4G31 is a 1.5 Litre engine and displaces 1499cc. It has a 74.5x86.0mm bore and stroke. As with the 4G30 the engine only came in a chain driven version. In Australia the engine was used in the GA Galant from 1969 to 1974.
4G32
The 4G32 is a 1.6 Litre engine with a displacement od 1597cc. It has a 76.9x86.00mm bore and stroke and was made with chain and belt driven camshafts.
In Australia, the chain driven versions were used in the following vehicles from 1971-1978:
- Galant GB - GD
- L300
- Sigma GE
The belt driven versions were used in the following between 1977 and 1985:
- Colt RB-RE
- Cordia AA
- Lancer LB
- Sigma GH - GK
- Nimbus
Outside Australia, a notable vehicle that used this engine was the fourth generation Galant
4G33
The 4G33 is a 1.4 Litre engine with a displacement of 1439cc. It uses a 73.0x86.0mm bore and stroke. As with the 4G32 it was built in both chain and belt driven versions.
The chain driven version was used in the following between 1973 and 1982:
- Galant GB, GC
- Lancer LA
The belt driven version was used in the following between 1982 and 1985:
- Colt RB-RE
- Lancer LB
4G37
The 4G37 was the largest Saturn engine at 1.8 Litres. It displaces 1755cc and has a 80.6x80.0mm bore and stroke. The 4G37 was only ever built with a belt driven camshaft.
In Australia, this engine was fitted to the follwoing from 1980 to 1989:
- Cordia AB, AC
- Nimbus UA, UB
Outside Australia, a notable vehicle that used this engine was the fourth generation Galant
