The 4A9x family of engines are inline 4 cylinder engines designed by Mitsubishi. They are the successor to the Orion engine. They are designed to be a lightweight, compact engine for use in the company's small vehicles. They features an all-alloy design with double overhead camshafts, MIVEC (on the intake camshaft) and four valves per cylinder.

The engine has been built at the joint Mitsubishi Daimler-Chrysler facility - MDC Power in Germany since 2003 and the Shenyang Aerospace Mitsubishi Motors Engine Manufacturing Co Ltd in China since 2009.
